Sterling and I yesterday… I wasn’t riding my best. I felt good but looking back through photos my eq is a little… off. I’m not sure why. I suppose in my defense, the show was my first time back in the saddle after being sick with the bird flu for what felt like an eternity (two weeks)
The last time I rode was exactly two weeks prior, at the last show I did with the princess mare where we won first :)
Second place ribbons where nice but I was a little disapointed.

In on of my o/f classes I didn’t place at all and Bob and I are still a little confused about that but cest la vie. I’m going to blame it on the added stride in our first outside line and Sterling taking a good stumble on the second outside line.. and like @lielikeyoumeanit, she of course got an awkward photo of it ;)
If you ever wonder why heels down is important… take a good stumble in the middle of a 5 stride line. You’re already moving fast, you’re already in two point and a little top heavy.. a good stumble can unseat you. You can see I’m laughing hard in this picture… it’s because my brain is realizing something along those lines.. or at least recognizing I could have fallen but didn’t!
I spent more time laughing at myself in the hunter ring than anything else but it’s so much fun.
When people bitch about eq not being everything… bleh. This is why I get so frustrated. Eq is important! Eq keeps you safe! It’s not just a superficial list of rules, it’s not something reserved for the snobby.

In one of the hunter o/f classes.. looking for our next fence.
Sterling is such a nice ride, she knows her job and is happiest when her rider trusts her enough to let her do it. In a sticky situation I’d rather let go of the reins than increase contact because I know she can get us out of it far better than I could.. and she gets offended at anything less LOL
